Fòrum Esplugues: citizenship and technology

On September 29, 2018 the Forum of Esplugues was held with the aim of bringing technology closer to the public. In fact, Esplugues de Llobregat is immersed in a process aiming to place the city along with the major changes that are taking place in society,i.e., the digitization process and accelerated technological change have an impact on the way of producing goods and services, how we consume, relate and communicate, how to educate the new generations and what and how the older generations should learn … and in so many other aspects of our daily lives. Esplugues de Llobregat thinks these changes are quite risky – for example, the creation of new social cleavages that exclude large groups of citizens – but that also generate opportunities.

Thus, riding on what is properly a matter of local development together with the need to bring technology closer to the public, from the current municipal government significant steps are being taken to 1. activate the local creative class, 2. to articulate the relationships between the public sector, the private sector, knowledge agents and civil society and 3. decide what type of facilty is required

In this sense, the local government has already taken significant steps: visits to manufacturing and coworking facilities, collaborations with tech centers, reforms within the municipal administration itself to accelerate change, celebration of the Creative Jam  in May of 2018 and, finally, the Forum of Esplugues.

It must be said that all this process has benn guided by the Leading Team, a representation of civil society, main companies and entities of Esplugues to  guide this process of change.
At U·TRANS we are very pleased to have been supporting this process of change and learning. We believe Esplugues de Llobregat is a reference not only for the Local Development and New Technologies Areas, but also of the political will of local governments. And the best is yet to come.
